Contemporary interpretation of Russian Musical Tradition in an interactive setting.

Valentina Kvasova (New York, NY) is a Russian folk singer and dancer. She combines medieval harmonies and cutting-edge contemporary sound into multi instrumental performance with songs and movement. Folklorist llya Tëmkin (Washington, DC), is an expert in traditional Russian instruments, particularly the GUSLI.  In his interactive musical demonstration, Ilya will share the history, performance, and construction of GUSLI and other traditional historic instruments.  VIDEO

Bluegrass ensemble “Ghost Sugar” is a group of four young, talented musicians from the Baltimore area. The band recently placed third in the DCBU Bluegrass Band Competition, and first in the Deer Creek Fiddlers Convention Band Competition.

VICTOR DVOSKIN, JUNE 13th

One of the Soviet Union's top bass players of the 1970s and '80s, Viktor Dvoskin has continued to make his presence felt on the global stage since relocating to the United States in 1993.  Dvoskin a classically trained bassist with a degree from Moscow’s Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. As one of the top jazz bassists in the former Soviet Union, Dvoskin spent 10 years with the Soviet jazz band Allegro and is now considered one of the most outstanding bass players in the US.
